The WBA has been working hard to provide productive meetings for its members and Executive Officers throughout Wisconsin’s local associations. We are pleased that over 50 members joined us on March 5 for our advocacy day –a day that is dedicated to fighting for legislation that will help the housing industry. You can read more about our advocacy day event later in this issue.
On April 16, WBA staff and myself held a virtual meeting with HBA Executive Officers from across Wisconsin to provide them with updates from NAHB as well as a moderated discussion surrounding home shows. We look forward to continuing that discussion as there are several local associations who have successful shows year after year, as well as those whose shows could use a little –dare I say –magic?
On April 23, WBA testified in front of the Assembly’s Housing and Real Estate Committee in support of AB 117 which will streamline the building permit process for one-and two-family homes. We look forward to that legislation continuing to move without issue through the legislative process.
We are excited to report that we have had 30 new members join so far in 2019 and look forward to continuing that positive trend throughout the rest of the year! Additionally, NAHB recently notified WBA Executive Director Brad Boycks that he was the recipient of a scholarship to attend the 2019 NAHB Management Conference which will provide executive directors from across the federation with tangible takeaways in order to build more efficient and effective associations for members. Congratulations, Brad!
Many of you may have seen Brad at your local association’s recent meetings, as he has been making his rounds through the state. Looking ahead, the WBA executive committee is planning to get on the road with him late this summer/early fall to come see you in your region of the state. Together with your local executive officers, the committee is also looking to create a new Home Builders Association of the Year Award to recognize local achievement that will be presented at the President’s Installation event in the future. Keep your eye on communications from the WBA and your local to stay apprised on these happenings!
Lastly, we are looking forward to seeing you all at the upcoming June member meeting, BuildPAC Fundraiser, and WB Foundation golf outing. We have a great agenda planned, including representation from NAHB and the Department of Workforce Development's Secretary Caleb Frostman. If you aren’t signed up yet, make sure to visit www.wisbuild.org/eventsto register! More information on these events is available later in this issue, but just a friendly reminder, the member meeting is FREE!
